Del Sol Medical Center has been awarded the AAGL Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology™ (COEMIG™) designation by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) - the premier standards-setting organization for minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.

“As El Paso’s first and only Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery, our goal is to offer the best minimally invasive gynecologic laparoscopic procedures, with optimal results,” said Joe Gallegos, Administrative Director, Surgical Services. “This Center of Excellence designation is testament to Del Sol’s experience in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and our on-going commitment to providing minimally invasive procedures aimed at preserving the highest possible quality of life for women, by using smaller and fewer incisions, reducing pain and trauma to the body, and enabling a quicker postoperative recovery.”

This voluntary designation involved rigorous clinical documentation and evaluation of established criteria for facility and surgical excellence in minimally invasive gynecologic care. Documentation includes addressing the volume and type of minimally invasive procedures Del Sol performs, short- and long-term patient outcomes of those procedures, safety measures and protocol, experience and training of staff surgeons, surgical equipment and technology, ongoing staff education, and other performance factors.
